Business Aviation Travel Tips for Davos, Switzerland

Private Aviation Davos

Whether you are flying with one of the economic elite to the World Economic Forum or accompanying a family on a ski trip, Davos is a gorgeous winter wonderland you will not soon forget. Nestled in the Swiss Alps alongside the Landwasser River, Davos is located in Switzerland’s Graubünden canton. The town is situated on the east side of Switzerland near Austria, and most of its 12,000 citizens (approximate) speak German.

Since Davos is a small town, it does not have an airport of its own. Instead, you will most likely be operating to Zurich Airport (LSZH). However, if parking is full in Zurich, popular alternatives are Bale Mulhouse Airport (LFSB)Geneva International Airport (LSGG) and Munchen Airport (EDDM). Since Davos is a well-known destination for skiers, winter is the peak season for private aviation traffic. Adding to the peak, is this fact that the World Economic Forum is held annually in January. During this time, it is advised to plan in-flight catering well in advance to ensure your passengers and crew have the best dining experience possible.

In the winter months, Davos has an average low temperature of 15 F (-9 C). The city has six skiing areas available and has the largest natural ice skating arena in Europe, so there are plenty of ways to enjoy the snow. Warmer months see average highs of 64 F (18 C); perfect weather for a mountain hike or a paragliding adventure. If you are in town in September, you may encounter the International Hiking Rally, an event where hires from around the world converge on Davos.

If you would like to be entertained while taking a break from the cold weather, even though it is a small town, Davos has a handful of museums to visit. Kirchner Museum is dedicated to the life and works of the artist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Heimatmuseum Davos educates visitors on local heritage, and Wintersportmuseum Davos is open exclusively during winter with a variety of winter sports equipment to view.

When you are ready to warm up with some of the best food in town, you will have many options including Montana Stube, Veltlinerstübli, Restaurant zum Bergführer and Amrein Seehof Stubli. After filling up, rest at one of the many luxury hotels and resorts for the night before heading off to your next journey and bid Davos “Auf Wiedersehen!”
