National Strawberry Ice Cream Day

National Strawberry Ice Cream Day

National Strawberry Ice Cream Day is held on January 15th in the United States. Strawberry ice cream dates back to at least 1813, when this delicious sweet was served at the second inauguration of James Madison. This sweet ice cream is now the third-most popular flavor, behind vanilla and chocolate.

Ice cream used to be exclusively for royalty and dignitaries. It was made by shaving ice and flavoring the ice with fruit and other ingredients. Its availability and popularity expanded in the 20th century, after cheap refrigeration became common. Enjoy a scoop of strawberry ice cream today, and think about how you are living like royalty of the past!
