National Chicken Curry Day

National Chicken Curry Day

National Chicken Curry Day is January 12th in the United States. Chicken curry, which can also be referred to as “Curry Chicken” is one of my favorites and lately has been very popular. It is a common delicacy in South Asia, Southeast Asia and in the Caribbean. It is a stew dish with a tomato-based sauce, onions, ginger, garlic, mango chutney, chili peppers and variety of spices including turmeric, cumin, cinnamon and cardamom. There are many variations of the dish, but the first dish was called “Country Captain Chicken” and was documented back in 1792 in India. The dish was a favorite dish of both President Roosevelt and General Patton.
